An impressive tournament: SportChain Cup Dubai U18 2019

One week ago already, the SportChain Cup Dubai U18 2019 took place at the Sevens Stadium in Dubai. Six national teams from all over the world competed against each other. With tough but educational matches, Czech Republic became first in the ranking.

The teams stayed at the Gulf Court Hotel Business Bay and Ghaya Grand Hotel. Training sessions of the teams took place at the NAS Complex, Dubai Sports City and at the Sevens Stadium complex. The stadium is a popular place: matches of AC Milan vs. Real Madrid, Rugby World Cup Sevens and even Justin Bieber had some concerts in there.
Such tournaments are one of the best practices for youth academies. All participants got the chance to compete against other teams from all over the world and players were introduced to different playing styles. “Impressive tournament, one of the best organized friendly tournaments I have been to!” – Enrique Echeverria, head coach Mexico National Team U18.

After a challenging tournament with nine matches in four days the following final ranking developed:

  1. Czech Republic
  2. England
  3. Mexico
  4. Russia
  5. Japan
  6. Belgium

With Belgium and England in the FIFA top 10, Czech Republic still was the strongest participant.

It’s not only about scoring goals
Of course the SportChain Cup Dubai U18 2019 wasn’t only about shooting the ball in the right goal. There were other prices to give away as well: no. 1 of Mexico became goalkeeper of the SportChain Cup Dubai, no. 4 of Czech Republic the top goal scorer and no. 11 of England was proclaimed player of the tournament. Congrats everyone! We hope to see such sportsmanship at our upcoming tournaments!

Tournament facts
Nice fact is that the no. 11 of England, Curtis Jones, already made his debute at the first of Liverpool FC.
Besides this you could say there was a little throwback between the coach of Belgium, Welsey Sonck, and Russia, Alexandr Kerzhakov. They had a game at the World Championship 2002 in South Korea where Belgium won with 3-2.
